Fissure in ano

Fissure in ano – Small tear or crack in the lining of the anus. It is a common condition that can cause pain and discomfort, particularly during bowel movements. Pain, itching, bleeding (bright red blood on the toilet paper or in the stool), and a small tear or crack visible near the anus.

Fissure in ano – Lateral sphincterectomy- Lateral sphincterectomy is a surgical procedure performed to treat chronic anal fissures that have not responded to conservative treatments. It involves the partial removal of the internal anal sphincter muscle, which helps to relax the anal sphincter and promote healing of the fissure.

Post-surgery care and recovery will vary depending on the individual and the specific circumstances of the procedure. Pain medication may be prescribed to manage post-operative discomfort. The patient may be advised to take stool softeners and adopt a high-fiber diet to prevent constipation and promote healing. It is important to follow the surgeon’s instructions for post-operative care, including wound care instructions, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications associated with lateral sphincterectomy, including infection, bleeding, damage to nearby structures, fecal incontinence (although this is rare), and recurrence of the fissure.
